Fashion designers are turning away from the conventional stretch pad for creating designs and predicting future fashion trends. Artificial intelligence is being used in all aspects of the fashion economy as it has the ability to detect the color, pattern, size and different combinations found on social media and websites.
But before we get into more details, you might be asking yourself, what is artificial intelligence?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a new technology designed to stimulate human behavior or tasks that often require cognitive intelligence from a human. In the past few years, AI has been able to duplicate almost perfectly human reasoning and thought patterns. AI is capable of identifying algorithms from large quantities of data in a relatively short period of time, giving accurate predictions and drawing inferences.
We live in a society that requires everything fast and the fashion industry is no different. Designers, online influencers, manufacturers and retailers are under extreme pressure to keep up with what the consumer wants now. Being able to predict these changes, making it available instantly will save them a truckload of money and time.
Normally, calculating all of the data for the consumer market can take months and often the choices are based on their personal preferences and biases. Plus, by the time they have calculated all of the online data, the consumer market has changed and is no longer interested in a certain product.
Thanks to AI, it does everything the fashion industry needs faster and more accurately than any team of humans.
In a recent episode of BBC Click program, it said that the UK discards more than 300,000 tons of clothes every single year. This can all be avoided if the fashion industry can more accurately predicate the future fashion trends, then they will only produce clothing that will actually be used and not wasted.
The question is: are you wearing right now an outfit that was predicted by a computer?
